Suede is a type of leather with a fuzzy, napped finish. The term comes from the French gants de Suède, which literally means "gloves from Sweden".

It’s a thinner soft leather which isn’t as strong as full grain leather. Its thinner because it is split from the full hide leather. You will find suede feels different with every instance because of the variation in type of animal, age and how thin the hide is spilt.

Common suede type:

Cowhide: The toughest form of suede due to its thickness and rough nap .

Pigskin: Another though but heavy form of suede with short nap.

Sheepskin: One of the lightest forms of suede with a very delicate and soft smooth nap.
